In Friesland, the experiment with a music-making road was stopped after one day. A playful action to improve road safety results in noise pollution and dangerous traffic situations.

The motorist hears the Frisian national anthem when driving over the special road ribs at the permitted speed. Unfortunately, this does not apply to the local resident. In contrast to the road users, they hear “a mix of all kinds of sounds”, or noise.

In addition to noise pollution, the experiment was not particularly conducive to road safety: people actually drove twice as fast to see if the music was played twice as loud. There were also drivers who found it necessary to investigate the effect of reversing on the special road ripples.

Until the road is back to normal, the noise will be limited as much as possible. In the nights, the track with the ridges is even completely closed off.
