On Wednesday 20 to stop coming up with new advice 2024 we are organizing the 10th edition of the Brilliant Failures Award Healthcare! We would like to invite you to attend this event. This year the focus is on the future of healthcare. Together we look at how we can use pattern recognition to increase our failure intelligence and innovate even more successfully. Attend the event? Please register using the form at the bottom of this page.
Discover inspiring cases from healthcare innovators
At the event, Brilliantly Failed healthcare innovators share their experiences and lessons. We will then discuss this with a complete cross-section of the healthcare sector. Together we will determine who will take home the award for the most Brilliant Failure in healthcare this year. Curious about the nominees? We list them for you below:
Extensive patient self-management initiative Umenz encounters system limitations
The Umenz project improved patient self-management with innovative online tools. Despite awards and positive results, it came across financing- and system limitations. Important lessons are the importance of patient involvement, early user feedback, and collaboration with insurers for successful healthcare innovations.
From Innovation to Impasse: Realization of serious game is stuck
A team from Ziekenhuisgroep Twente wanted to get admitted patients to exercise more by means of a serious game. Despite a prototype and positive feedback, the project encountered financing problems and ownership disputes. Key lessons include the importance of early validation, realistic expectations, and willingness to co-finance. The project lost momentum due to changes in ownership and lack of financing, among other things, but is now aiming for a second chance.
Innovation in healthcare: Skiing on unknown slopes
Innovation in healthcare is like a challenging ski tour: tempting but risky. Some professionals stay in familiar territory, while pioneers Off-piste go. Marieke Meinardi explored unknown paths and shares lessons from four projects aimed at making care for vulnerable elderly humane and more efficient. This includes rapid transfer of patients, assessment of hospital admission, and discussion aids for treatment boundaries. Despite positive results, she encountered financing problems and logistical challenges.
“If we think precision medicine is important, we should also make it a strategic spearhead”
By PHC Catalyst, wants to accelerate the transition to precision medicine. Despite promising efforts, the initiative faces funding challenges and systemic resistance. Important lessons are the need for a system transition with an active government role, collaboration between stakeholders, and a virtual knowledge center for PHC innovations.
Building second chances
During the event we will jointly look for second chances for the nominated Brilliantly Failed healthcare innovations. Together we put our shoulders to the wheel on concrete follow-up options for these projects, but we also define action perspectives for similar situations. The young healthcare tank, a multidisciplinary group of young healthcare professionals, will consider the case studies prior to the event and present their advice to the sector. In this way they bring fresh energy and thinking patterns to the event.
Let's inspire and learn together!
