Researchers from Radboudumc Nijmegen, UMC Utrecht and the Netherlands Heart Institute have come to the conclusion that in most cases animal experiments do not lead to successful treatment of sick people. There is also time pressure and many experiments are unnecessarily repeated because data on failed animal experiments are rarely made public. Much could be learned from animal experiments in which animals have died for the development of medicines, according to the researchers. Unfortunately, hardly anything is published about this, because scientists are often not really eager to tell you that sometimes hundreds of animals have suffered for their research that yielded nothing. Because the researchers think it is a shame that these failed studies are not published, the Radboudumc, UMC Utrecht and the Netherlands Heart Institute have set up a website with a register where scientists from all over the world can record their research involving animal experiments. This can also be done anonymously.
