The intention

Go camping in the winter at some hot springs in Death Valley, california

The approach was

Joining some Americans who had a lot of experience with wild camping. We had the necessary equipment together in advance, bought food and more than enough water.

The result

As a result, we woke up in the middle of the night to a river flowing through our camp site; the whole valley had turned into a mud puddle where you sink up to your ankles. The mountain passes from the valley were covered with snow. The storm turned out to be predicted; however, those who had seen the weather forecast simply couldn't believe that it would rain so much in the desert.

The learning moment

Apart from things that clearly could have been better, Is there anything else to infer from this 'failure'?; when traveling, it is often the right moments when things go wrong that yield the best memories. Pushing the cars out of the mud and making their way over the almost snow-covered pass was certainly a fantastic adventure and the view of the desert as a white billiard cloth with Joshua Trees rising from the snow like modern sculpture was absolutely brilliant.
