The Failure

A more than disappointing result, Ab van de Wakker calls the effort of the Brabantse Academic Workplace Diversity in Youth Policy to set up a diversity panel; a (internet)panel of representatives of migrant groups who answered online questions can provide advice on how to- and care for migrants and their children
the best can happen. In several ways (through schools and sports associations, existing networks and special recruiters
from migrant circles) tried to recruit panelists. But that has not led to enough
Attendees. The question is: why not?

The lessons

Van de Wakker and his colleagues had anticipated a lack of knowledge of the Dutch language and the lack of a computer or computer skills by using intermediaries.. Two other thoughts came as a surprise. It turned out that there was quite a bit of mistrust against the
panel and potential participants feared a reduction of the answers to the respondents. But that integrated migrants do not want to be addressed as migrants (but just as a Dutchman), was really the final blow for the panel. The trick is now to listen to the
input of migrants, without formalizing it in a panel structure.
