The intention
The secretary of our department has always had a passion for New Zealand and decided to emigrate. Nature, rest and adventure were her main motivations. She had also met a nice man from Auckland during a holiday and she wanted to get to know him better.
The approach
She resigned, canceled the lease and bought a one-way Auckland. She found a job as a waitress in a fast food restaurant and a room with an English family. She enrolled in a fashion designer course.
The result
After eight months she came back, was rehired at our company and soon became PA of one of the managers, responsible for a.o. The ocean. She loved New Zealand, but then as a holiday country. She missed family and friends, the man from Auckland soon had another girlfriend. After two bungee jumps, there was also the exciting part. The weather was even worse than in the Netherlands… Yet she had enjoyed it and the New Zealanders have conquered a place in her heart forever.
The lessons
Before she left she said: “I'd rather regret the things I've done than the things I haven't done!”
In retrospect, the experience turned out to be good for her career and for her personal situation.
