The intention

Centuries ago, nomadic peoples in the desert wanted to properly store and transport their scarce water and milk.

The approach

The nomads traveled around with their animals. These cattle farmers kept water in the abomasum of a cattle or camel. Eventually they also tried to store and transport fresh milk in this way.

The result

They discovered that the milk had curdled during transport. The rennet turned out to be in the abomasum.

The lessons

The milk looked different and still tasted good. This is how cheese was discovered.
