In 1981 American Airlines introduced the Unlimited AAirpass. A one-time amount of 250.000 dollars are paid after which the buyer flies around the world unlimited first class for a lifetime. For an extra 150.000 dollar it was possible to purchase a Companion Ticket and the pass owner can take someone with him on every flight.
Ultimately, the action led to major losses for American Airlines. Two customers, Steven Rothstein and Jacques Vroom, flew for every year 1 million dollars. With the deployment of a private investigator, the airline hoped in vain to find a way to revoke the card. She discovered that Steven haphazardly surprised people at the airport with a first-class ticket; Jacques was suspected of reselling tickets. Despite the fact that the men did not do anything wrong according to the conditions, American Airlines has withdrawn the cards due to fraud.
To avoid similar situations, the company had raised the price of the pass considerably and later in 1994 completely discontinued.
