Dibiyya Development Project

The intention was:

During a conference in 2006 in Kambia the main chiefs came up with the plan to start a vocational school for young adults. Many young adults are unemployed and there was a great need for craftsman.

The course of action was:

A plan was made concerning: - local education authorities supplied a unused school - Red Cross stopped their program of rehabilitating war-childs, so staff and teachers would come available. -a member of parliament offered his help for free import duties. - In Holland Derde Wereldwerkplaats donated a container of repaired tools.

The result was:

The member of parliment has a reward of €7.500 for his help. No getting the reward he told the Sl-Secret service that there are weapons in the container. They confiscated the container, only after 3 months dispute they released the container. Red Cross got new sponsors to continue their program on war childs. Staff nor teachers become availble.

The lesson was:

We learned that before starting a project a thorough investigation and research should be done. We also learned the impact of corruption on projects.

Further:

The good thing was that we could supply local companies, contractors, craftsman with good tools to develop their business.
